Sad that all that holiday bling is put away? Is the fact that the neighbors still have their Christmas lights up more painful than amusing? Well,s the good news is there is another holiday on the schedule and Style Savvy has put together specially priced packages to celebrate it. What better way to say “I love you” for Valentine’s Day then to give the gift that makes your loved one feel beautiful. A special package from Style Savvy is the best way to say; “Here, be the most fabulous “YOU” you can be!”
The most cozy, comfortable feeling I can imagine is to be swathed in head-to-toe cashmere. Heaven!!! Thankfully, cashmere is now available at all price points and in most stores, so I can feed my addiction without robbing a bank. If you share my fetish, read on and I'll tell you how to wrap yourself in this most luxurious, cuddly comfort for less than you'd imagine.
Cashmere is more expensive than wool because it is made from the underbelly hair of goats that live at high altitude. (And no, they don't have to harm the cute little goats-they're shaved and turned loose to regrow their miraculously soft, sinfully delicate hair).
Cashmere is softer, silkier and more cloudlike than any wool could ever be. When I said that I wanted to be wrapped in it like a blanket, I meant completely surrounded, in a tracksuit, socks, gloves, beanie, shawl, coat and scarf, all of which are, thank God, available at less than Kardashian prices. Ann Taylor and Ann Taylor Loft sell lovely sweaters in clear, melting colors. Topshop offers hats and gloves in prices that only have two digits on the tag! Macy's and Bloomingdale's have always sold sweaters in multiple styles and diverse colors in the $100-200 range. J. Crew, Banana Republic, Anthropologie and Nordstrom all sell beautiful cashmere pieces at affordable prices. So now you can surround yourself with this most luxe of all wools without surrounding yourself in high credit card bills! What a happy coincidence in the dog days after the holidays!! And what a wonderful way to celebrate the fact that "trend" is today, but "style" is forever!!!
Well, favorite readers, Thanksgiving is over and even my leftovers are finished! Hope yours are too, because Christmas cookies are about to make an appearance and the fudge, prime rib, goose and cakes are right behind! So how do we get through the Christmas party season stylishly but with some degree of comfort? The answer is one hyper-trendy but totally stylish word-LEGGINGS!
Yes, I know. You thought leggings were gone, never to return. But I gotta tell ya, leggings are very much "in" now and they are everywhere! The difference between then and now? The old style had you wearing black leggings with a patterned sweater. On trend now? Patterned leggings with a solid sweater or tunic. And these patterns are IDEAL for holiday parties, because they are being shown in metallics, animal prints and bold color combos sure to make you feel, and look, festive!
Leggings go perfectly with today's ankle boots but for fun, try them with your over-the-knee boots! Keep the sweater simple and go for the gusto of big hoops or statement earrings. Looking fab AND wearing an elasticized waist? It doesn't get any more comfortable or fun! So wow your party pals with your great outfit, all the while knowing that you have "room" to indulge! And remember......"trend is today, but style is forever"!!!!
There you are, in a store in Fashion Show Mall, confronting every woman's dilemma........"Is this worth it?"
Believe it or not, there are easy tests to determine the answer to this. The first is cost per wearing. What that basically boils down to is how often ARE you going to wear it? The black pumps that are classic enough for the office but sexy enough to go on a date are going to get worn, let's say, 3 days per week. That's 156 times a year, so if you spend $450 on them, that's less than $3 per wearing. If, instead, you buy the less expensive version at $159, chances are good that they'll A) hurt your feet, B) have to be repaired/replaced two or three times. When they hurt you won't reach for them and they'll spend a lot of down time at Green Valley Shoe Repair. (Truth and product placement in one sentence-yea, Me!) So-you wear them less with higher maintenance and replacement costs and the cost per wearing is actually higher than the more expensive version!
The other test is more subjective. It's called......"How much do you love me?". That Kate Spade bag that you adore is going to give you a lot more pleasure than the Le Sportsac your mom is pushing you towards. The Kate Spade is classy, the color is perfect for a large majority of your wardrobe and you just plain love it. How does that stack up against a bag you're almost embarrassed to carry?
The last test is "Which looks expensive and classic versus which looks cheap and plastic?" Bags and shoes can make any outfit look elegant. Putting those $450 pumps with either jeans or black slacks makes them look classy, whereas pairing those pants with a cheap bag and shoes brings the whole outfit down. So do yourself a favor. Do the math. Take the tests. But when all is said and done, remember the immortal words of Coco Chanel........"Trend is today, style is forever"!
I don't think I've realized lately how lucky we are to live in Las Vegas. The shopping experience has gone from glitz (only) to glamour (mostly) in the last ten years. With all of our malls and stores, I'm seeing a definite uptick in the number of tourists who arrive with empty suitcases and leave over the weight limit.
I particularly enjoy going to the Premium Outlet Mall on Grand Central Parkway. With everything from Adidas to Armani, this mall is a cornucopia (did you like that Thanksgiving reference I slipped in?) of bargains. I took a client there who was thrilled to find a shoe store that catered to wide widths, a different client found a leather jacket she had admired but been unable to afford last season.
For all of you who are looking for great gifts for the holidays, allow me to suggest looking at the outlet mall. You can score as much as 75% off retail and feel like you're a real winner in a town where locals know better. And the gelato store is off-the-charts yummy, even when the decorations and temperatures remind us that we're in gift giving, not gelato, season!
