Ladies and gentlemen!
Are you the kind of people that have their thank-you notes written by 7 am the morning after? Worse, are you the smug ones that have finished all your Christmas shopping by November 1st? If you are, you might not get as much out of this blog as NORMAL people will. Your wardrobes are all complete for fall/winter already, aren’t they?
For you NORMAL people I want to talk about those wardrobes because you may still be searching for the right belt to compliment the slacks you already have or the right blazer to pull an ensemble together. Here’s the Style Savvy take on the trendy pieces for fall/winter to accent those classics in your closet.
The first trend you’ll see a lot of is the longer blazer. Rather than being fitted and hip length, these new jackets are slouchy and hit right around the top of your thighs. Of course they come in all colors and patterns but if you want to combine two trends, look for one in plaid. Plaid is rediscovered for this season so picking up an unstructured, comfortable jacket in this popular pattern does double duty. It’s great for polishing up an after-work outfit or for layering so you don’t need a heavy coat.
Because plaid is so popular, designers at all price points have put out plaid shoes and boots. I’ve seen them at Dillard’s, Saks, Neiman’s and Nordy’s. If you are looking for something to wear with your black slacks, your jeans or your monochromatic get-ups, plaid shoes or boots might be just the right accessory.
Another thing that’s “in” this season is leather and exotic skins. They’re not just for breakfast any more! Leather shoes, pants and jackets are familiar and well-loved but have you thought of a leather or faux leather shirt? What about python-stamped shoes? These are trends that you can incorporate with your classics as accents. Very style savvy!
Booties still reign supreme in footwear but boots have morphed into knee-highs that have replaced middle-of-the-calf and over-the-knee boots. These knee-high boots are universally flattering and are available in flat, kitten heel or chunky heel right on up to my favorite stilettos. Gorgeous and fresh, but destined to become classics!
Bags have a new silhouette for fall/winter. Round bags can be an inexpensive way to keep an ensemble fresh. I’ve seen them in leather, suede, clear acrylic and raffia.
