Now that summer is finally here, it’s THAT time again-time to get out the swimsuits. Even if you haven’t perfected that summer bod, you can create looks that are fun, flattering and fashionable. With Style Savvy as your personal fashion stylist, you can find the suits that show off what you want to show off and camouflage what you don’t, while looking modern and fresh.
The first question to ask yourself is.....one piece or two? This one depends less on age and more on self-confidence. If you have confidence in your body and yourself, you may want to wear a two-piece. The flatter your tummy, the lower the bottoms, so you can choose between a bikini and a higher waist. You can also choose to wear a French cut (high on the hips) to elongate your legs. Don’t forget to flatter your butt by choosing Brazilian style (cut narrow ) or full coverage.
Two-piece tops may have no cups ( for smaller busts ), padded cups to enhance “the girls” or underwire. Want a little bit of support? Look for halter tops that tie behind the neck and show off some cleavage. Perfectly perky? Try a bandeau top with no straps. Want a little more coverage? How about a tankini? They’re two piece suits that provide a bit of camouflage chic, covering the tummy and hips. They may actually give you more coverage than a one-piece.
One piece suits are certainly the most versatile of all. Cups or no cups, straps vs. none, cut high on the hips or not, with cutouts or embellishments, a one-piece can also look more fashion forward and elegant than a two-piece. Color also plays a big role in choosing a style savvy suit.
As a personal stylist, I teach clients the colors that are most complimentary to them and urge them to consider those colors for swimsuits and coverups. Prints look fresh and young, solids are more slimming and a monochrome look ( suit, coverup, even shoes and hat ) always looks elegant. Remember, the most expensive swimsuit can’t flatter you if the cut and color are wrong.
When I do a closet makeover, I show clients how to emphasize their good points and camouflage their hot spots. This is the epitome of style savvy, because “trend” is today but “style” is forever!
