Perhaps a better question than “what are women wearing in London” would be “what are women NOT wearing in London “! The street style in London is eclectic, to say the least!
Many of the places we’ve been to have been tourist haunts so we have seen clothes from many countries. In general, traveling Europeans seem to dress with more verve than the typical American tourists. I saw many more “ensembles”, rather than jeans/T shirt combos. But last night we went to one of the oldest restaurants in London (established in 1798!) where the clientele were predominantly English and my head was on a swivel!
At Style Savvy we frequently discuss the difference between style and trend, and although I saw many trendy outfits, the majority were stylish as well! I’m not very fast with my camera, though, so I missed many great examples but I saw many of them displayed in the stores I visited.
For example, plaid was as much in view here in Liberty London as it is in New York. I saw women in head-to-toe plaid, along with many, many plaid coats, skirts and scarves. I felt very “au courant” in my grey and black plaid long blazer!
I also saw women in top-to-bottom leather, like these outfits in Liberty London. There were a fair number of prairie dresses, most worn with combat boots and I LOVE that look of combining masculine and feminine! It’s like wearing a peasant dress with a heavy denim jacket, but a newer version.
The kitten heeled pump is not as evident over here. Many women were in high heels - stilettos, strappy or T-strapped, in vibrant colors or color combinations. There was less black than you might see in the U.S. and more color in general - maybe it’s the grayer and more rainy weather??
Whatever. I did, however, see lots of black wide-legged, cuffed and cropped pants, like this pair that I couldn’t resist!
Hats were also prominent! From fedoras to artists’ berets, they were worn with flair and panache. These were definitely new takes on old classics, proving again that “trend” is today but “style” is forever!

Liberty London is a must when you are across the pond. However, thanks to the amazingness that is the Internet, you can shop from your very own computer. A few of my favorite looks from their site are pictured above. Read about their heritage here.
