Sole Salvation!

Are you tired of towering heels?  Sick of stilettos?  Are your arches aching?  Well, good news, my sartorial sisters!  The newest look gives your soles a second to sigh and your toes some tolerance.  In other words, springs hottest shoe look is a low heel that is as different from the spikes of yesteryear as a fish is from a bicycle!!!!!

The newest, hottest look in shoes this season ranges from a modern take on the ballet flat to a kitten to a blocky one inch heel.  They have one thing in common; they are far removed from the elegant, ladylike 3-4 inch delicate heel that's defined the last few seasons.  These new shoes are detailed with mirrors on the heel, straps on the ankle, embellishment on the toe and buckles on the instep......looks that demand to be shown off by cuffed jeans and mid-calf hems.  These shoes are statements in themselves; they don't complete an outfit, they are it's foundation.

And color!  White with that mirror detail, as seen at Celine, Coke can red straps on those ankles from Attico, kitty cat faced embellishment in the toes at Charlotte Olympia and black buckled straps covering the instep the way Miu Miu displayed them.  The sky is virtually the limit on color , to say nothing of the combos shown on sneakers like at Golden Goose.  This is truly a season to say "I want to be comfortable and different from everyone else and I want to show it off!"

This trend harkens back to the styles of the '70s, when anything was possible and the more "out there" you were the more "in" you were.  It's a backlash at the ladylike heels of previous years and shows that everything old is new again.  Color is the new neutral, pants and skirts are hemmed to show off footwear and comfort is key.  Kicks, slides, mules, ballet flats, clogs-if its low and stands out, it says "it" today, as it did in the '20s, '70s and now the 'teens.  What does it mean?  The more things change, the more they remain the same.  So enjoy the color, comfort and cool-and remember that "trend is today but style is forever'"
